Our Meetings

Weekly student association meeting — how it works and how you can easily join.

Every Tuesday at 1:10 PM (13:10) we meet in seminar room 0.108 (directly next to the student association room 0.001) for our weekly Fachgruppe meeting. The meeting is the core of our work: here we discuss all upcoming topics, plan events, and make democratic decisions.

The most important information first: Our meetings are open to all students of the Computer Science department. You do not need to register, and no prior knowledge is required — just drop by, listen in, and see what we do!

The Atmosphere (Setting)

We like to keep things simple and relaxed. We don’t have stiff, formal sessions:

  • Casual Setting: We sit together relaxed in the seminar room and are happy to introduce you to our work.
  • Equal Say: Everyone who is present has a voice and voting rights, and can pitch their own ideas. We are all on a first-name basis.
  • Flexibility: You don’t have to stay until the very end. If you need to leave early, that is completely fine.

What Do We Actually Do?

At a typical meeting, we work through an agenda, which usually covers the following topics:

  1. Email Office: The person holding the email office briefly presents what was brought to our attention in the past week, followed by discussion and voting.
  2. Reports from Committees: We discuss what is happening in the university committees (such as the Faculty Council or the Study Committee) and how we can represent the students’ interests there.
  3. Event Planning: Whether it’s the freshman introduction week (ESE), game nights, summer party, or guest talks — we discuss who is organizing what.
  4. Project Support & Finance: We vote on financial requests. If students plan an event or need equipment for the student body, we decide here how we can support them.
  5. Room Management & IT: We organize practical matters regarding our student room (ordering drinks, 3D printers) and our IT infrastructure.

How Can I Join?

There are many ways to get involved — with absolutely no pressure:

  • Just Listen: Drop by and sit with us. You don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to.
  • Bring Your Own Topics: Do you have a problem with a lecture, an idea for a cool event, or a suggestion for improving the department? Just bring it up. (If you have a larger topic, it is probably best if you come to the student room beforehand so that our leadership can plan early to put the idea on the agenda)
  • Join a Working Group (AK): Many tasks are handled in smaller working groups. Choose what interests you — from managing past exams to public relations or running the 3D printer.

If you have any questions beforehand or don’t want to come alone, feel free to send us an email at fs@fius.de or talk to us in the student room!
